Officially, Cuomo for Poloncarz/ Albany Times Unioin

October 22nd, 2011

As we suggested last week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo endorsed Mark Poloncarz for Erie County executive. The Democrat is trying to unseat Republican incumbent Chris Collins.

"Mark has done an outstanding job as Erie County Comptroller." said Cuomo. "He has rooted out waste and fraud and fought hard to protect the taxpayers of Erie County. He will make the tough decisions necessary to reform Erie County government. His experience and commitment make him the clear choice to move Erie County into the future, and I look forward to working with him to strengthen the economy of Western New York and improve the quality of life for all the people of the county. I urge you to vote for Mark Poloncarz for Erie County Executive."

Various sources say Cuomo is planning to appear at a rally with Poloncarz sometime next week or the weekend before election day. The endorsement release, from Poloncarz, said this will happen "in the coming days." I would like to point out, for context, that I will celebrate both Thanksgiving and Christmas in "the coming days."

This race is important because it’s an interesting political proxy fight for Cuomo.
