"Officially marking the start of election season for the Niagara Falls City Council, Alicia Laible, director of network development for Elderwood Health Plan and Executive Director of Elderwood Transportation, announced her candidacy on Tuesday with a video on her campaign's YouTube channel.

This will be Laible's second run for the City Council, the first ending in a narrow loss in 2011. Citing her experience in business development and business operations, Laible says she believes she is the right candidate to tackle the most important issues facing the Cataract City.

"Every day, our City Council has to prioritize spending, deciding how to attract jobs through economic development and provide high quality city services. As director of a business start-up, I know what businesses need to expand and relocate, and I know how to manage service delivery. I love this city, I believe in this city, and I want to put my expertise to work on behalf of its residents."

Laible says she believes the city is moving in the right direction, but that there's still work to be done. "There's no question that we're making forward progress. For the first time in a generation, our downtown skyline is changing for the better. Crime statistics are improving every year. But we still need to create many more well-paying jobs, continue to chip away at crime, and be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars."
