Media & Marketing Coordinator Nicholas D'Angelo quoted in Niagara Gazette

An excerpt from the article is quoted below:

Nick D’Angelo, media and marketing coordinator for the Niagara County Democrats, said in the past few months, the committee has seen a jump in interest, with their Facebook page jumping from about 100 likes to nearly 900. Website visits are also spiking.

In addition, D’Angelo, himself just 24 years old, said more than 200 people have shown an interest in becoming active with the party. Of that number, he estimated that 40 to 45 percent would fall into the millennial generation. He also added that the bulk of local interest, especially from young people interested in seeking an elected office, are primarily coming from the county’s three cities, Niagara Falls, Lockport and North Tonawanda, and less so from surrounding towns.

“The problem is always getting people to stay involved and stay engaged,” he said. “Especially for young people, they have other things going on, they go to school or they work, and it’s hard to stay focused on one thing. What influences young people is seeing other young people get elected. Someone has to carry the torch and it inspires other people to follow.”

D’Angelo also noted, despite a recent burst of political interest among young people, that involvement has been going up among young people for the past few years, noting the election of Ezra Scott Jr. to the Niagara Falls City Council in 2015. He said that, much like women in politics have had a glass ceiling to break, young people are working on a glass ceiling of their own.
