Judge Diane Vitello seeks re-election as Niagara Falls City Court Judge

CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT

Judge Diane Vitello is seeking re-election to Niagara Falls City Court in November. Judge Vitello has over 27 years of experience as a judge and a lawyer. Vitello was elected to Niagara Falls City Court in 2008. Since being elected, Vitello has presided over the Domestic Violence Court and has been elevated to an acting county court judge by the Supervising Judge of the Eighth Judicial District.  Judge Vitello was also hand-picked to preside over cases in the newly formed Niagara County Youth Court which will handle serious felony cases from throughout the county beginning in October of 2018.

“I have been honored to serve the people of Niagara Falls as your City Court Judge for the past ten years and am proud of my accomplishments on the bench.  I have presided over thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases involving special victims. It takes a very specific type of legal experience to handle cases involving special victims.

You need to strike a balance between protecting the rights of the accused while, at the same time, not further traumatizing the victim.  I take pride in being able to say that after ten years on the bench and over three years in a special victim’s part, not a single decision has been overturned by a higher court,” said Vitello.

Current New York State Assembly Member and retired City Court Judge Angelo Morinello said this about Vitello, “Judge Vitello was my colleague on the bench for almost ten years. She inherited the domestic violence part from me a few years before I retired and is well respected by law enforcement and the defense attorneys alike. She has also shown an extraordinary level of compassion for the special victims who appear before her while still respecting the rights of the accused. As such, I would urge all voters in the City of Niagara Falls to re-elect Judge Vitello to another 10-year term in next year’s election.”

For nearly three decades, Judge Vitello has served the citizens of Niagara Falls. In 1994, Vitello was appointed by the Hon. Paul Crapsi as a court attorney in Family Court, and served in that capacity for eight years. Vitello also served as an Assistant District Attorney for Niagara County under the leadership of the Hon. Mathew Murphy. Vitello is a life-long resident of Niagara Falls and is a proud mother to her son, Luke Touma.
